Cabane

International performance network & creative retreat in rural France

Project

Cabane is an annual residency in which interdisciplinary artists from across Europe live together to explore contemporary performance practice and create site-specific performances and
events. Founded in 2023, with initial subsidy from the Au Brana Centre we had our third residency November 2025.

The French term ‘cabane’ defines a structure that creates its own ecology of behaviour :- a treehouse, a pillow fort, a campfire. Accepting its transience, you build your cabane with what you can find: twine, mattresses and a nice branch. It becomes your world until the following Winter when a voice calls

« dinner time! », and you find no trace of it, or you find that the nice branch has formed its own ‘cabane’ out of everything you forgot.
